The President of South Africa proclaimed the commencement date of the POPI Act,
to be 1 July 2020. A grace period of one year (i.e. up to 1 July 2021) was granted for all parties who process personal information to comply with the Act.
This means that the clock has run out on the grace period, and that everybody now needs to comply with the Act.
The POPI Act changes the way people and organisations deal with information in an information-driven economy and society.
